Holistic Counselling

A Holistic Approach

"You go through life wondering what it is all about but at the end of the day it's all about family."

A Bit About Counselling

I see counselling is a collaborative effort between the counsellor and client encouraging them to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the client and caregiver alike. It is about identifying goals, strengths and potential solutions to problems which cause emotional turmoil; seek to improve communication and coping skills; strengthen self-esteem; and promote behaviour change and optimal mental health.

I trained as therapist in South Africa and immigrated to New Zealand in 2001. I have since assisted individuals and families in a variety of settings such as paediatric, medical, surgical and for the last 17 years in a Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Service. I have also been providing supervision for the past 15 years.

My approach to therapy is evidence-based and includes modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy and Systemic Therapy.

I am a client and solution focused professional and counsellor, committed and adaptable in providing, support to a diverse range of clients.
I am a registered member and affiliated with the Australian & New Zealand Mental Health Association (ANZMH), ANZASW (Professional Association for Social Workers in Aotearoa New Zealand), SWRB (Social Work Registration Board of New Zealand), member DAPAANZ (Professional association for people working in addiction treatment in New Zealand) and fully accredited Social Worker with ACC.
